What are natural resources?

Natural resources are materials and components that can be found within the environment. They are often formed by natural processes and are considered renewable or reusable. The most common natural resources include air, water, sunlight, soil, rocks, and vegetation. These resources are vital to sustaining life on Earth.

Humans rely on natural resources for a variety of purposes. For example, water is necessary for drinking, irrigation, and manufacturing; air is required for breathing and photosynthesis; and rocks and soil are used to build homes, roads, and other infrastructure. Natural resources also provide a number of environmental benefits, such as regulating the climate, purifying water and air, and providing habitat for wildlife.

Despite their importance, natural resources are under threat from a number of sources. Pollution, climate change, and depletion of resources are all having a negative impact on the planet. It is essential to take measures to protect natural resources so that they can continue to support us and the environment.

Why charitable support for natural resource preservation is important

There are many reasons why charitable support for natural resource preservation is important. One reason is that it helps to protect our environment. By preserving natural resources, we help to keep our air and water clean and our land free of pollution. This benefits us and future generations who will inherit the Earth from us.

Another reason why charitable support for natural resource preservation is important is that it supports the livelihoods of local people who depend on those resources for their survival. For example, many Indigenous peoples in Canada rely on hunting, fishing and gathering for their food and income. If we allow natural resources to be destroyed, it will have a devastating impact on these communities.

Preserving natural resources also helps to preserve our planet's biodiversity. Biodiversity is essential for the health of ecosystems and the services they provide us with, such as clean water and air, food, medicine and more. With so much at stake, it's clear that supporting charities that work to preserve our planet's natural resources is crucial.

Three ways you can support natural resource preservation causes
  1. Use less water - Turn the faucet off while brushing your teeth, take shorter showers, and water your plants during the cooler hours of the day. You can also install low-flow showerheads and toilets to further reduce your water usage.

  2. Reduce your energy consumption - Turn lights off when you leave a room, dress for the weather so you don’t have to adjust the temperature as often, and unplug electronics when they’re not in use.

  3. Recycling and composting - Recycling helps keep harmful materials out of landfills and incinerators, while composting helps keep organic waste out of landfills where it would release methane gas – a potent greenhouse gas.

The Clarence Environment Centre
Nonprofit
ABN 22286860873
Endorsed DGR Items 1 &
As biodiversity conservation is our ultimate objective, the Land for Wildlife program, a national program for which the Clarence Environment Centre is the local provider, ticks all our boxes. All the field work and report writing required for the program is undertaken by volunteers, but there are still overheads such as phone and internet, insurance, licences etc., which have to be raised by the organisation. Funds raised through public donations during this particularly difficult year have been minimal, a mere $120. However, every little helps, and that money, combined with our other fund raising activities, and strong demand for our bush regeneration work, have managed to keep us in a relatively strong financial position, and well able to meet those necessary costs.
