As the demand for natural resources grows, strain is put on the world’s ecosystems, causing a rise in global temperatures and climate change. Climate change is a major threat to the planet and its inhabitants, and it is important that we take action to mitigate its effects.

One way to do this is by donating to organizations that are working to combat climate change. These organizations are doing important work to raise awareness about the issue and to lobby for policies that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They are also working on projects to help communities adapt to the changing climate.

Your donation can make a significant difference in the fight against climate change. By supporting these organizations via Giveabl's API and plugins, you are helping to fund their work and ensure they can continue making progress.

What is Climate Change?

Climate change is the long-term alteration of temperature and typical weather patterns in a place. Climate change could refer to a particular location or the planet as a whole.

Climate change has been connected with damaging weather events such as more frequent and more intense hurricanes, floods, downpours, and winter storms. Together with expanding ocean waters due to rising temperatures melting polar ice, the resulting rise in sea level has begun to damage coastlines as a result of increased flooding and erosion.

The cause of current climate change is largely human activity, like burning fossil fuels, such as natural gas, oil, and coal. Burning these materials releases what are called greenhouse gases into Earth’s atmosphere. There, these gases trap heat from the sun’s rays inside the atmosphere causing Earth’s average temperature to rise.

How your donation can make a difference in the fight against climate change
  1. By donating to organizations combatting climate change, you can help support their work in raising awareness and undertaking projects to mitigate the effects of climate change.

  2. Your donation can help these organizations to carry out research into the causes and effects of climate change and develop new methods to reduce its impact.

  3. Funding from donations can also be used to support organizations in their lobbying and campaigning efforts to persuade governments and policy-makers to take urgent action on climate change.

  4. Giving to climate-related recipients can help to fund research and development into renewable energy sources.

  5. Finally, your donation can help climate change organizations to provide support and assistance to those already suffering from the effects of climate change, such as communities affected by floods or droughts.

Endorsed DGR Item 1
OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it directly to more than 1,400 charities supporting people in need across the country. Founded in 2004 by Ronni Kahn AO, after noticing the huge volume of good food going to waste from the hospitality industry, she decided there had to be a better way. Starting in Sydney with one van she delivered 4,000 meals in the first month. OzHarvest now operates nationally, rescuing over 180 tonnes of food each week from over 3,000 food donors. In response to the COVID19 pandemic, OzHarvest has been recognized as an emergency relief service. In 2020, several new Government funded food relief services were launched to meet the dramatic increase of food insecurity. In addition to the 1,400 charities OzHarvest supports, direct to community initiatives, such as a free supermarket in Waterloo, NSW, allow OzHarvest to directly connect food with vulnerable Australians. Working closely with a network of charitable and industry stakeholders, OzHarvest also supports those most impacted by the pandemic, including regional and remote communities, international students and vulnerable individuals unable to access food during lockdown periods. OzHarvest is on a mission to make sure good food does not go to waste, ensuring the true value of food is recognised. In addition to diverting quality surplus food to those in need, OzHarvest delivers multiple food literacy programs and campaigns to educate on the importance of nutritious food and the importance of not wasting it. Through these initiatives, OzHarvest works to provide solutions to the problem of food waste, helping to reach the national target of halving food waste by 2030.

Climate change can affect you in many ways. For example, it can make it harder to grow crops, which could lead to less food.

It could also make it harder to get clean water, since climate change can cause more droughts.

Extreme weather events, like floods and hurricanes, could become more common and more intense. This could damage your home and your belongings.

Climate change could also make it harder to breathe, since it can cause air pollution.

How does supporting renewable energy projects help with climate change?

Renewable energy sources are types of energy that come from renewable sources. These sources are naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat.

Renewable energy sources can help alleviate climate change by displacing fossil fuels, which are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions.
