Hands Across The World

ABN 37494031746
Endorsed DGR Item 1
Hands Across the World was established to create a safe environment where childrenare respected, protected and empowered. Our approach utilizes educationalcommunity programs to prevent human trafficking, forced labour and sexualexploitation. Quality education is the key to providing opportunities and creatingbrighter future for children. Hands Across the World initiated the 'Interactive TeacherTraining in Siem Reap' (ITTSR) as a pilot project which ran from June 2016 to March2017. The project was developed in response to the need identified by various NGOswho work to improve learning outcomes for youths by supplementing governmenteducation with additional classes in English and other subjects. Due to the poor qualityof education and the lack of qualified teachers in Cambodia, kindhearted teachers, who often have not received any training or higher education themselves, take over orcontribute to the education of their village children in rural nongovernment schools. Thus, the curriculum was designed to provide progressive, interactive teachingmethods to local teachers working or volunteering at a nongovernment school withlittle or no formal teacher training. During the pilot, more than ten experienced teachersand trainers volunteered their time to develop and deliver a tenmonth curriculumthrough weekly training sessions of two hours every Saturday afternoon in Siem Reap. Twenty trainees, some travelling up to an hour each way and all with busy work/studyschedules completed the course and graduated on 1st April 2017. In 2019 the secondcourse over a 30 week period started with again 20 teachers and the trainee teachersgraduated from the course in September 2019. The 2020 course was unable to proceed due to the COVID19 pandemic.

Why should I donate to support Cambodian causes?

There are many reasons to donate money to support Cambodian causes. One reason is that Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world, and donations can help provide basic necessities like food, water, and shelter. Another reason is that Cambodia has a high rate of child mortality, and donations can help fund medical care and education. Additionally, Cambodia was devastated by the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s, and many people remain displaced or have difficulty accessing essential services. Donations can help rebuild infrastructure and provide services to those in need.

Why do Cambodian focused charities and nonprofits need funds?

Cambodia is a developing country with many needs. Education, healthcare, and poverty relief are all areas in which Cambodian focused charities and nonprofits can make a difference. However, they need funds to be able to operate and provide these services. Sometimes donors from developed countries are the only source of funding for these organizations.
